POTSDAM -- Experiments are underway at Clarkson University to study the drag characteristics of a luge sled for the US luge team.
A full-scale sled, provided by USA Luge, is being tested in Clarkson’s high-speed wind tunnel to measure its wind resistance.
Results from this study will be used to modify the shape of the US National luge sleds leading up to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
Clarkson Professors Douglas Bohl and Brian Helenbrook will use the wind tunnel results to design a faster, more aerodynamic sled for the United States Luge Team, which it hopes to use at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
