CANTON – The St. Lawrence Steel boys’ 14U hockey team went to Amherst last weekend for the state tournament and returned as 2019 New York State champions.
The team went undefeated in five games during the weekend tournament.
Next stop is the national championships in South Bend, Indiana April 4-8.
The team, based in Canton and coached by Erik McLaughlin, Matthew Bresett and Coby Munson, is Drew Piercey, Ian Sovie, and Drew Costello, all of Ogdensburg; Jacob Smutz, Aiden Rufa, Conner Terry, Ryan Letham, and Ethan Carr, all of Massena; Rhett Palmer and Daniel Mahoney, Canton; Rhett Ashley, and Ryley Ashley, Norwood; Bryan Jones, Potsdam; Mason Frary, Brasher Falls; Ethan Moulton, Fort Covington; Carter Sturgeon and Jon Kratts, Saranac Lake; and Luc LaFex, Watertown.
