CANTON — Bids on the construction of a $450,000 capital project to build restrooms and concession stands at the athletics complex on State Street were approved at the Feb. 14 school board meeting
The general contract bid proposal of $299,000 from Frank J. Danko Construction Corporation was approved.
An electrical contract bid proposal from TEL, Inc. for of $40,825 was accepted.
Norwood Plumbing, Inc. won the plumbing bid and will do the work for $38,000.
A mechanical contract bid from Hyde-Stone of $5,040 was approved.
New sports fields were constructed in 2017, but funding for restrooms and a concession stand were “not in the original budget” at the time. Because restrooms and concession stands at athletic fields are not eligible for state aid, the burden for the total cost fell on local taxpayers. The vote on Oct. 12, 2017, was 235 to 82 in favor of the project.
Two sets of restrooms are needed due to the sheer size of the complex, to accommodate the handicapped and those with special needs.
“The timeline is yet to be determined based upon weather and schedule of athletic contests,” according to Canton Schools Superintendent Ronald Burke.
