POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Pharmacy Department will offer a medication check-up June 24 from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
It will be in conference rooms A and B on the second floor of the main hospital campus at 50 Leroy St.
The public are encouraged to bring all medications they are currently prescribed, over-the-counter medications, vitamins and minerals, inhalers, creams and lotions, diabetic supplies and any other medical or herbal products they consume.
The check-up is offered free of charge and refreshments will be available.
A licensed clinical pharmacist will meet with participants to review their medications, discuss proper use, storage, and disposal of medications, and check for interactions between medications or duplicate medications that may have been ordered by multiple providers.
“Medications can be beneficial if taken properly,” said Christopher J. Boiallis, director of the CPH pharmacy. “Doctors and nurses are trained to teach patients how to use their medications; however, sometimes when multiple providers are involved, there are unintended consequences and duplication or undesirable interactions occur,” he said.
The CPH Pharmacy Department is a full-service non-retail inpatient pharmacy that also serves the outpatient needs of the CPH Center for Cancer Care and CPH outpatient infusion services. It supplies to the CPH Center for Cancer Care a certified oncology pharmacist.
Those wishing to participate should bring their medications or other remedies in the original packaging and in a small cooler or bag with an ice-pack if medications should be kept refrigerated. Disposal services will not be available but participants will be given information on proper disposal. No appointment is necessary.
