CANTON -- A fake bomb threat forced the evacuation of Canton Middle School Friday, according to press release issued by Canton Central School Superintendent WIlliam Gregory.
Gregory said a student reported seeing the threat drawn on a bathroom stall, which caused officials to evacuate the building.
"A report by a Canton Middle School student to a faculty member of a scribbled bomb threat on a stall wall in a boys’ bathroom precipitated a lockdown of the school and a concerted response by area law enforcement agencies including officers from the Canton Police Department and the New York State Police," he said.
He said a search of the middle school was conducted using a dog trained to detect bombs, but no threat was found.
"Following the search the lockdown was lifted and classes resumed as scheduled," he said.
Gregory said the Canton Police Department will continue investigating the incident
"Canton Central School wishes to thank all law enforcement personnel for their timely and effective response," he said.
