CANTON -- Local massage therapist Jennifer Murphy has joined Glow Skincare and Spa, 75 Main St., and is now accepted new clients.
Murphy has been practicing as a physical therapist assistant since 1996 and a massage therapist since 1998.
“In 2008 I began taking continuing education courses through John F. Barnes called myofascial release and developed great skills to helping patients with chronic and acute pain,” she said. “I did this while I worked at Canton Potsdam Hospital in the physical therapy department for eight years.”
Murphy said she was able to take MFR I, MFR II, cervical-thoracic MFR, and unwinding.
“I worked with an amazing PT, Danielle Wheat, who is still providing this service at Canton Physical Therapy Department," she said.
Myofascial release works with the fascial system of the body to release patterns of tightness and pain, according to Murphy. This is done by providing MFR pulls on the skin without oil and holding for 3-5 minutes.
“This can be done by itself or I do a combination with massage after MFR,” she said
She offers 30, 45 and 60 minutes therapeutic massages.
The client can choose what pressure works best for them with no extra charge for deep tissue work.
She also offers a hot stone massage.
