CANTON -- A Canton man was jailed Sunday for allegedly stealing from a debit card and EBT card and cash, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies.
Timothy S. Sharepstene Jr., 26, was charged with petit larceny for allegedly stealing $25 from a person's wallet while inside of their residence.
While in custody for that arrest, Sharpstene was found in possession of another person's debit card.
Deputies contacted the person whose name was on the card and investigation revealed that Sharpstene had been asked to return the debit card several times and refused to do so, officers said.
Sharpstene also allegedly took the same person's EBT card and refused to give it back.
He was charged with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and taken to Norfolk court for arraignment.
He was ordered held on $2,000 cash bail and is to face the charges in court at a later date.
