CANTON — Current Canton Highway Department employee Steven Smith announced his candidacy for the highway superintendent position.
Smith has been employed by the Town of Canton Highway Department since 2006 and currently works as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator.
“Having operated a highway plow truck and worked with the town highway crew for 15 years, I have the knowledge and experience to make decisions on road issues as well as vehicle repair and maintenance,” Smith said.
After graduating from Canton Central, Smith worked on his family’s farm where he said he learned the responsibility of earning and handling money.
“I have been involved in record keeping and documentation while working for the Town of Canton. I have seen first hand the benefits of local towns sharing equipment and see this as an area that could be expanded on. I realize that the Town of Canton Highway Superintendent needs to maximize the impact of taxpayers money and be accountable to the public,” he said.
The current superintendent of the highway department, Calvin Rose, has given me his full support and endorsement, Smith said. Rose is retiring.
Smith said Rose, “is leaving the job having set a high standard of service for the people of the Town of Canton. I thank him for his support.”
I believe I am the best candidate for this important job,” Smith said. “Please consider me for the position of Town of Canton Highway Superintendent. Your support would be appreciated.”
