RUSSELL -- The Russell Theater, 4 Pestle St., will present a free concert by the Canton Goldenaires barbershop choir at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 15.

Founded 1959, The Canton Goldenaires is an a-capella choir that has been singing four-part harmonies for fifty-five years now. The Goldenaires are a chorus, not a quartet, but their sound is very much what you'd expect from a barbershop group – close voicings, intricate harmonies, soaring counter-tenors, and deep baritones.

The Canton Goldenaires are associated with The Barbershop Harmony Society, an international organization with members all over the world. It started in Oklahoma back in the 1930s and has been growing ever since. The Goldenaires' singers range in age from 28 to 78. Their theme song is sung to a tune that some might recognize as the Kellerman's theme song from the movie Dirty Dancing.

Donations will be accepted at the door.
