CANTON – TAUNY’s current exhibit, Kindred Pursuits: Folk Art in North Country Life, offers a look at contemporary and historical folk art from across the North Country. Visitors who would like to learn more about the art and artists showcased are invited to a series of “Folk Art in the Afternoon” presentations on Wednesday afternoons in February and March.

For each afternoon session, a local authority on the exhibit case studies will present an informal illustrated talk about the artist or group of artists and their work. All of the case studies have been the subject of extensive research and are considered outstanding examples of folk artists of our region.

Folk Art in the Afternoon programs will begin at 4 p.m., and will include tea, coffee, and light refreshments. Presentations are planned for about 30 minutes, with time for questions and answers.

The Wednesday afternoon schedule is: Feb. 15 - Swartzentruber Quilts & Quilters, Betsy Tisdale; Feb. 22 - Veronica Terrillion: Her House & Garden, Varick Chittenden; Feb. 29 - St. Lawrence River Decoys & Carvers, Larry Lunman; March 7 - Michael Cousino & his Vietnam War Dioramas, Varick Chittenden; March 14 - Akwesasne Baskets & Their Makers, Sue Ellen Herne; March 21 - Hazel Tyrrell & Her Songbird Carvings, Varick Chittenden.

Registration for these free presentations is not necessary, but an RSVP to info@tauny.org or 386-4289 will help us with planning.
