CANTON -- The Canton Central School Board of Education will name Ronald P. Burke as the Superintendent of Schools, succeeding William “Bill” Gregory who held the position for over ten years.

Burke currently serves as superintendent of schools for the Edwards-Knox Central School District.

The Canton Central School District will officially appoint Burke superintendent of schools at the regular Board of Education meeting June 7.

“After an exhaustive search process, the board is confident that Ron Burke is the right fit for Canton Central School District,” said Canton BOE President Victor Rycroft. “We believe he possesses the right knowledge, skills, and attitude to move our district forward.”

The board conducted a statewide search with support from SLL BOCES District Superintendent Thomas Burns. Input from stakeholders contributed to the board’s decision.

“Ron Burke is a passionate educator who truly cares about the success of every child,” said St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES District Superintendent Thomas Burns. “I have no doubt that he will do great things for the district.”

“I look forward to this new opportunity,” said Burke. “As superintendent, I hope to build upon the excellence that is the hallmark of the Canton Central School District. As an alumnus and resident of the school district, I recognize that the strength of our community is our people. To chart our future, all voices need to be heard. We need to assess our strengths and share our hopes. I will lead this collaborative process as we define success and develop goals to that end.”

Prior to becoming Superintendent at Edwards-Knox in 2016, Burke served as assistant superintendent for instruction at St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES. Formerly, he was the elementary principal at Edwards-Knox Central School.

He also served as mathematics teacher and mathematics curriculum coordinator at Saranac Lake Central School; adjunct mathematics instructor at North Country Community College and mathematics teacher at Chazy Central Rural School.

Burke earned a bachelor of arts and master of science from SUNY Potsdam College, as well as a master of science in educational administration from the University of Scranton. He holds a New York State teaching certification in mathematics, and New York State building leader and district leader certifications.
