St. Lawrence County has declared a local state of emergency and extended the county-wide burn ban through Friday.
The State of Emergency was declared due to extremely dry conditions causing numerous out-of-control grass and brush fires.
Joseph Lightfoot, chairman of the St. Lawrence County Legislature, issued the order on Sunday.
“No person shall intentionally set an open fire throughout St. Lawrence County, with the exception of a small camp fire where the camp fires are built in fire rings that confine and contain the camp fire,” the order reads. “This order supersedes all burning permits.”
