Blackburn, Marchetti leads Saints women's swim team past Skidmore

Junior Alanna Blackburn and sophomore Gabriella Marchetti each won a pair of events Friday afternoon, as the Saints went on to defeat Skidmore in their season-opening dual meet by a score of 123-73.

Other winners for St. Lawrence included Nicole Leinders, Heather Foley and Julia Carson.

Blackburn and Marchetti swept the sprint and distance freestyle events, respectively. Blackburn posted times of 25.52 and 55.52 to win at the 50 and 100-yard distances, while Marchetti picked up wins in the 1000 and 500-yard races with times of 11:33.57 and 5:40.87.

Leinders also competed in the freestyle for the Saints, earning her victory at the 200-yard distance in 2:06.57. Carson and Whittum finished third and fourth behind Leinders, with times of 2:07.81 and 2:08.20, respectively.

Foley, first-year Meg Musser and Julianne DeGuardi swept the top three spots in the 100 fly. Foley build a sizeable lead on her teammates and finished in 1:02.99. Musser clocked in a 1:06.29, while DeGuardi touched the wall at 1:08.43.

Carson led the Saints in the 100 breast, finishing ahead of teammate Courtney Goodrich with a time of 1:14.15. Goodrich, a senior for St. Lawrence, clocked in at 1:19.07 to claim second.

The teams split the relay events on the day, with St. Lawrence team of Kathryn Whittum, Carson, Foley and Blackburn winning the 400 medley in 4:17.62; 20 seconds ahead of the Thoroughbred foursome.
