Primary voters Tuesday elected Canton’s Republican highway superintendent and in Potsdam an incumbent and a newcomer to run on the Democratic party line for town board.
In Canton, incumbent town Highway Superintendent Terry L. Billings easily won the Republican primary against challenger Jim Gibson, 216-134. Both men were also on the Conservative Party ballot and Billings won that contest as well, 9-5. In addition, Michael R. Morgan and Christopher R. Curley vied for the Conservative endorsement for the Canton town justice, but that contest ended in a tie, 7-7.
In Potsdam, incumbent Judith Rich, with 191 votes, and Sarah Lister, daughter-in-law of town board member Rose Rivezzi, with 196 votes, won the Democratic primary for two town board seats. Connor Newcombe, a Potsdam Central School senior, received 62 votes
The results are unofficial and do not include absentee ballots.
