Bengals top Potsdam, 95-80

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Buffalo State (12-12, 8-9 SUNYAC) used a big second half to down the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (4-19, 2-14) 95-80 on Friday night. Bears senior captain Rob Duquette (Peru, N.Y./Peru) scored a career and game-high 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. Junior guard Roderick Epps (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) had 25 points to pace the Bengals.

Buffalo State led by as many as 12 points on hot 54 percent shooting in the first half. Sophomore guard Bradley Doyle (Brooklyn, N.Y./Sports Management) hit a layup at the 7:59 mark to make it a 32-20 Bengal lead. The Bears closed the half with a 21-14 advantage and trailed just 46-41 at the break. Duquette started the turnaround by draining a wide open 3-pointer from the top of the arc just 21 seconds later. The captain had 17 points by halftime.

Buffalo State used a 29-14 stretch to build a 20–point lead and seize control of the contest eight and a half minutes into the final period. The Bengals led by as many as 21 points in the second half as the Bears struggled to get their offense rolling. Potsdam outscored Buffalo State 25-20 over the remainder of the contest, but couldn't pick much ground in the 95-80 loss.

Junior guard Tom Graf (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan-Elbridge) recorded a career-high 16 points for Potsdam, while junior captain Zac Adams (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) added another 10. Bengal senior forward Justin Mitchell (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon) had 23 points and a game-high 12 boards for a double-double. Doyle finished with 14 points and freshman guard Rey Jordan (Buffalo, N.Y./McKinley) also hit double-digits with 10 points.

The Bears will honor seniors Duquette, Brandon Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys & Girls) and Colin Peterson (Hilton, N.Y/Hilton) prior to tomorrow's season finale against Fredonia at 4 p.m.
