CANTON, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (10-11, 1-5 SUNYAC) defeated Maine-Fort Kent (19-3) 3-1 on the first day of the SUNY Canton Roos Classic. Senior outside hitter Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) led the Bears with 16 kills and four blocks.
The Bears took set one 25-23, before the Bengals responded with a 25-22 victory in set two. Potsdam then finished the match taking sets three and four, 25-20 and 25-17. Senior captain Kelsea Healis (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate) registered eight kills and led Potsdam with 16 digs. Junior captain Brianna Rodda (Holbrock, N.Y./Sachem East) recorded 44 assists and an ace, while junior defensive specialist Maddie Kaplan (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) had a season-high five aces. Freshman middle hitter Monica Mack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) tied her career-high with 10 kills. Freshman outside hitter Anika Anderson (Honolulu, Hawaii/Radford) finished the contest with four aces, nine kills and nine digs.
Potsdam is back in action at 11 a.m. tomorrow, when the Bears face Elmira. They then close the weekend against Canton at 3 p.m.
