NORWOOD, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's and women's cross country teams each finished fourth as they hosted the Pre-SUNYAC Invitational at Norwood-Norfolk Central School this morning. St. Lawrence University captured the men's and women's team and individual titles. Bears senior Anthony Perri (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) topped all Potsdam performances with a 7th place finish.
Perri ran a 5K time of 16:41.5 and freshman Ngor Nyang (South Sudan/Henninger) was next for the Bears at 17:58.5. Freshmen Joshua D'Angelo (Camden, N.Y./Camden) and senior Alex Gregory (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) posted times of 18:04 and 18:16.8. Freshman Matt Brown ran a time of 18:26.7 and classmate Troi Wall (Sandy Creek, N.Y./Sandy Creek) finished in 18:53.9. Sophomore Logan Drake (Theresa, N.Y./Indian River) rounded out the Bears men in 19:41.6.
Freshman Lilly Cushman (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) paced Potsdam's women with a 5K time of 20:33.1. Seniors Lauren Orosz (Chase Mills, N.Y./Madrid Waddington) and Catherine Varriano (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) followed in 21:05.4 and 22:33.3. Freshmen Adriana Smith (Freedom, N.Y./Pioneer) and Emelys Villareal crossed the finish line at 23:02.9 and 23:20.02. Freshman Alice Menis (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) and sophomore Maddie Schmauch (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) recorded times of 24:31.7 and 24:43.6.
SLU's Leah Livernois (18:51) and Patrick Mortensen (16:21.18) won their respective races.
The Bears will also host the 2017 SUNYAC Championships at Norwood-Norfolk on Oct. 28.
Potsdam is back in action in three weeks at the Saratoga Invitational hosted by RPI.
