Ashley has experience, good attitude says Canton native

I’m writing to urge the voters in the village of Canton to vote for Mary Ann Ashley for mayor. Mary Ann has proven she can address the challenges from the committees she has participated on to her roles in the community. Representing the village on the CSX crossing, being on 10 committees since being on the board, Mary Ann brings the ability to represent the whole village, not a select few.

Our community is composed of many hats from downtown businesses, colleges, schools, farmers, the county seat, and tourism. We also have a village to operate. Leadership means more than just being there when no one else is available. We need to expect more.

Should we every have a disaster in Canton that reaches national exposure, who do you want leading and representing the village? Who was there to speak for our veterans on Veterans Day and at the Dairy Princess parade? It wasn’t the mayor.

I think you will see Mary Ann is a strong image and representative for us, and for the right reason. Mary Ann has proved her involvement as a trustee, department head for the county, on the Canton School Board, Fire Station Committee, and 10 different village committees. I’m sure there are many more.

Mary Ann has proven herself with conservative views on our budgets and spending, advocating for a no tax increase mind set. She advocates for cutting costs while retaining services or even increasing them by consolidating services with the town. Mary Ann understands the necessity of working together to find ways to improve services while cutting expenses.

Mary Ann understands planning and listening to village residents no matter what their party line or affiliation. These attributes help define what we expect, not dream about. Mary Ann has what it takes and will apply herself to grow the village in a time when we need a leader. Having spoken with her, listening to her goals and plans, I know that she is willing to put forth the effort and work with people, which the job requires.

We need someone with the reputation, dedication, and background to address the issues that face us. I urge you to meet Mary Ann and return integrity to the office. You will be rewarded for taking the time to meet her. Mary Ann Ashley is the person we need to lead and represent the village and be proud of it!
