NORFOLK - Alan Roger Shelmidine, 92, who resided in Norfolk, NY for many years, passed away in Potsdam, NY on September 30, 2026.
He was born August 28, 1934 in Lorraine, NY, son of Hollis C. and Ruth (Thomas) Shelmidine. He graduated from Adams High School where he was active in Ping Pong, Football and Boxing.
After high school he joined the Navy Seabees and served from 1952 until 1956. He went to work as a meat cutter first with Acme Supermarket in Malone, then at P & C in Massena. He served in the Army National Guard for over two decades. He was an active Scout leader. In the winter he liked to make skating rinks for the neighborhood kids in his driveway. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening.
Alan was predeceased by his devoted and loving wife Julia Shelmidine of 69 years and two brothers Hollis (Sonny) and Larry.
He is survived by his son Jimmy and his wife Deborah; daughter, Jill and her husband Michael Perry; son, Johnny and his wife Shirley; daughter, Jackie and her husband Marcus Wink; son, Jody and his wife Nichole. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and a sister Sue.
Always loved. Always remembered, rest in heaven until we meet again.
Services will be held on Saturday October 10, at the Piddock Funeral Home Inc, 7 North Park Street, Adams, NY with visitation from 10 to 11 am followed by funeral service 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Burial in the Rural Cemetery, Adams, will be private.
