AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and Mohawk Council of Akwesasne will host Orange Shirt Day activities Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Generations Park.

The event will begin with a Community Walk at 9:30 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony, traditional dancing, a community social, free lunch, a Medicine Game and a variety of free cultural and wellness activities.

Orange Shirt Day provides an opportunity to honor the courage, strength and resilience of residential school survivors and their families while bringing the community together through culture, ceremony and food.

The event is free and open to everyone and will be held rain or shine.

Activities are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Generations Park, 30 Margaret Terrance Memorial Way.

Those participating in the Community Walk and using shuttle transportation are asked to arrive at Generations Park by 9 a.m. Shuttles will transport participants to Church Street for the 9:30 a.m. start.

The roadway along the walk route will be temporarily closed to traffic during the Community Walk. Motorists are asked to plan accordingly and use caution in the area.

Organizers encourage Akwesasronon to wear orange and participate in the day.
