AKWESASNE – The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Community Partnership Fund donated $5,000 to support the Akwesasne Winter Carnival, a weekend-long event held each year in the Akwesasne community.

Now in its 27th year, the Winter Carnival features drug and alcohol free events that promote a healthy community through contests and games, vendors and demonstrations, a fishing derby and other activities that help bring community members and visitors together during the winter season.

This year’s event is being hosted by the Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment and will be held from Thursday, February 8th until Sunday, February, 11th at assorted locations around the community. A check presentation was held in the Tribe’s Community Building and was attended by Chief Michael Conners, Coalition member Missy Conners, Chief Thompson, Chief Beverly Cook, Sub-Chief Cheryl Jacobs, Sub-Chief Shelley Jacobs and Coalition member Meghan Bushey.
