POTSDAM -- Village police have charged a Winthrop man with passing bad checks for more than $3,000.
Police say John M. Hudson, 40, passed at least 18 checks for $2,807.48 at three businesses and banks in the village and $445.54 more in checks at three other local businesses outside the village.
Police say all the checks were written on Hudson's closed bank account.
Hudson was arraigned before Potsdam Village Justice Garner and held on nail of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear again on Aug. 18.
Village police are asking any other businesses with returned checks from Hudson to contact them at 265-2121.
