A winter storm warning remains in effect through 1 p.m. in St. Lawrence County as a wintry mix of precipitation will begin to taper off later today, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Widespread snow and mixed precipitation will taper to light snow showers and flurries by this afternoon into Wednesday morning as low pressure exits east and much colder air pushes into the region, forecasters say.
The high temp today will be around 22 with west winds at 9 to 11 miles per hour, NWS says.
Overnight the low will be around 5 with wind chill values of -6, forecasters say.
Unseasonably cold and mainly dry weather then persists across the area through much of the week before temperatures moderate into next week, the service says.
The forecast through Monday is as follows:
Wednesday
Sunny, with a high near 21. Wind chill values as low as -7. West wind around 8 mph.
Wednesday Night
Increasing clouds, with a low around 10. South wind 3 to 6 mph.
Thursday
A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 33. South wind 6 to 10 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Thursday Night
A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Southwest wind around 10 mph.
Friday
A chance of rain and snow showers before 10am, then rain showers likely between 10am and 2pm, then rain and snow showers likely after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Southwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
