North Country This Week
CANTON – The Partridge Run Golf Course has a new greenskeeper.
On Wednesday night, the village board approved the hiring of Scott Nickerson, a veteran in golf course maintenance. Nickerson will succeed long-time golf course superintendent Skip Wason who is stepping down on Friday.
“I am very excited and appreciated the opportunity,” said Nickerson. “I will be working with Skip and will carry on the great job Skip has done there.”
Nickerson’s salary will be $57,824.
Nickerson worked as director of agronomy at The Club at New Seabury in Mashpee, Mass. for 29 years before making his way to the North Country where he has worked in a similar capacity at the St. Lawrence University-owned Oliver D. Appleton Golf and Country Club in Canton and the Malone Golf Club since April 18, 2021.
Mayor Michael Dalton said Nickerson is a St. Lawrence University graduate where he played hockey.
“He has extensive experience,” Dalton stated.
He is a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
“It amazes me what they do with a budget and the equipment they have. It’s phenomenal,” he remarked.
In other business, the board agreed to a tentative date of Sept. 28 to hear a presentation on the completed Court Street safety study conducted by Clarkson University students.
The board accepted the resignation of Canton police officer Josh Rose and police dispatcher DeniAnne Kilgore. The board then authorized a search to fill both positions.
Also, the parking area adjacent to the former McDonald’s restaurant, 64 Main St., will be closed to clear the way for excavating extra test holes for contamination analysis. The date of the parking lot closure has yet to be determined.
