AKWESASNE -- Akwesasne Freedom School (AFS) students and staff and Tribal Council members were on hand recently for a check presentation of $2 million from the Tribe’s Community Development Fund for the new Akwesasne Freedom School’s building project.

The presentation was held May 19 at the new site of the school, located off State Route 37 at 60 Freedom Way, in East Akwesasne.

“It is truly an honor to help in creating a safe and efficient learning environment for our most precious gifts – our children,” said Tribal Chief Michael Conners.

“The Akwesasne Freedom School has been a priority of the Council’s, and it was chosen as a recipient of Community Development funding following feedback after a community callout from Tribal members to help identify much needed community projects,” said Tribal Chief Ron LaFrance.

“I:kehre akwe:kon tekwanonhwera:ton tsi ni:kon tesewa’tkawenh ne ase’stsi ionkwatenonhson:ni, expressing my sincere gratitude for your generous donation towards our new school building project that will ensure a safe and environmentally friendly space for our precious children now and for the future!” said Akwesasne Freedom School Principal Alvera Sargent.
