OGDENSBURG -- A 44-year-old man was arrested by Ogdensburg City Police June 9 for possession of methamphetamine and illegally possessing a cane sword.

James M. Yerdon, 44, of 936 Lafayette Street was charged following a police investigation instigated by a report from the state parole system in reference to a home visit at Yerdon's residence.

Police said when assisting state parole officers with an investigation at the residence they uncovered a crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, as well as the cane sword.

Police said the methamphetamine was packaged with intent to sell.

Yerdon was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance -- crystal methamphetamine in an amount one eighth ounce or more with intent sell.

Yerdon was also charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon for having the cane sword, since he had a previous criminal conviction.

He was arraigned and held without bail.

New York State Parole and Ogdensburg Police were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police.
