NORWOOD -- The emergency shelter at Norwood Norfolk Central School will close at noon today, according to the American Red Cross Northern New York Chapter.
Meanwhile the whine of chainsaws and the sight of trucks loaded with tree limbs continues this morning as Potsdam residents continue to clean up the village after a violent storm struck Tuesday afternoon.
The shelter was opened for Potsdam residents who were displaced from their homes because of the thunderstorm and power outages.
Volunteers and staff from the Northern New York Chapter set up the shelter to provide food, clothing and other assistance to residents who were forced from their homes by the storm, which tore the roofs off several buildings and cut power throughout Potsdam.
Electricity provider National Grid’s outage map shows that fewer than 50 customers remain without power this morning, and the company expects to have it restored by noon today.
Anyone who was affected by the disaster and requires assistance after noon today should contact the Red Cross Potsdam office at 268-0102, or visit the office at 73 Market St., Potsdam.
