POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Rotary Club recently held its second annual Wheelchair Challenge at the Maxcy Hall field house at SUNY Potsdam to raise funds for the Wheelchair Foundation.

The event, which featured teams of four in an elimination completion relay race, raised awareness of the difficulties faced by wheelchair bound individuals, and provided funds to purchase 20 wheelchairs for The Wheelchair Foundation.

Potsdam Central School administrators Patrick Brady, Joann Chambers, Jamie Cruikshank, and Larry Jenne took first place, narrowly beating last year’s champs, the team from Kelly Services, Michelle McGill, Kimberly Jones, Andrea Waters and Joe McGill.

Third place was captured by Penski sponsored team of “Papa’s Angels” (Abby Scott, Kylee Mason, DanI Sinnigen and Liz Demsy). Best costume prizes were award to “The Rolling Molars” from the office of Dr. Stacy Howlett, DDS.

Many local businesses helped make the event a success: Potsdam Big M, Pizza Hut and Harris Medical provided refreshments and goodie bags for every participant; Great Northern Printing provided the wining teams hoodies and T-shirts; Village Diner, Julians and Wal-Mart contributed team gift certificates. First Crush donated coffee gift certificates and Dunkin Donuts gave coffee.

Each team that participated was required to raise a minimum of $75. For each entry fee, the Wheelchair Foundation matches and provides a chair for someone in need. Several individuals contributed funds as well.
