NORWOOD -- The Norwood Volunteer Fire Department is now rolling out a new-to-them heavy rescue truck thanks to the support of the community during fundraising efforts over the past few years.

No taxpayer money was used to purchase the 2001 4 Guys Heavy Rescue Truck from the Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Department for $50,000, said Michael S. Daggett, president and treasurer of the Norwood Fire Department Association.

Instead the department raised the cash from fundraisers like chicken barbecues, dinners and "loot in the boot," as well as donations from the general community.

"All of our functions we hold each year have helped us get this truck. From the chicken BBQ’s, ATV/UTV runs to the 3rd and 4th Of July events we hold," Daggett told North Country this Week.

"Myself and the other members of the Fire Department Association would like to thank the people of Norwood for their continued support through the years. With all there donations or coming out to our events they have made it possible for the Norwood Fire Department to upgrade the rescue truck that we needed to keep protecting the village," said Daggett.

The vehicle will replace an older rescue truck which is now worn out and beyond its useful life.

"This will be the vehicle which will mainly be carrying all our equipment from brooms and shovels to extra air bottles, packs, masks, chimney fire equipment," said Daggett.
