North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has joined with the state Conservative Party and her Republican colleagues in the House and the state Legislature to oppose a growing number of sanctuary cities which she says are offering things such as driver’s licenses to immigrants in the country illegally.
They have come out “in opposition to the reckless immigration agenda of Democrats in Albany and in Washington, DC to expand sanctuary cities across New York, provide driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, and to provide sweeping amnesty for illegal immigrants,” a statement from the Schuylerville Republican’s office says.
“The reckless immigration agenda of Democrats in Albany and in Washington, DC would make the already hard job of law enforcement officers even harder by implementing state policies that circumvent federal policy,” said Stefanik. "Let me be clear: I oppose giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, any expansion of sanctuary cities in NY, or any amnesty to illegal immigrants. Legitimizing and recognizing illegal immigration is a step towards turning New York into a sanctuary state. Our nation needs comprehensive immigration reform, which starts by securing our border. Last Congress, I was proud to vote for the rule of law and to defund sanctuary cities,” she said in a statement.
