New equipment rental business opens in Winthrop

North Country This Week

WINTHROP — Home owners, independent contractors and DIY fans now have a new source for equipment and tools, ranging from skid steers and tractors to pressure washers and leaf blowers.

North Country Equipment Rental LLC recently opened its doors to the North Country but for owners Jedidiah and Jordan Arquitt, this won’t be their first business venture.

The brothers first began their appliance repair service in 2016, quickly establishing themselves in the North Country with J&J Appliance Services LLC.

“We always try to offer the best customer service. We know how we want to be treated when we’re buying from a company and we treat our customers the same way,” Jed said.

Though they settled on their equipment rental business, Arquitt said the two had other aspirations and may continue to own and operate more businesses in the future.

“We like starting companies, as strange as that may sound. We saw a big need in the area for an equipment rental company and want to help the community,” he said.

A big deciding factor for both came when a piece of equipment they needed to rent last summer wasn’t available for over a month. It was at that point they decided to take matters into their own hands and begin planning their new venture.

“When you need to do a project in June, you don’t want to wait until July or August for the equipment. For some people, time is money and they need that piece of equipment fast,” he said.

Arquitt also said the company can accommodate the smallest requests, like the need for a pressure washer or drill for a day. For larger projects, customers will have many choices that include numerous lift types, heavy equipment and power tools.

“We’re always open to suggestions too, whether it’s a five dollar item or a $100,000 piece of equipment. If there is a serious need for it, we’ll add it to our inventory,” he said.

Arquitt also said he and his brother plan to expand rapidly and hope to hire staff as they expand.

“Right now it’s our father and my future brother-in-law who are running the shop. That’s not to say you won’t see Jordan or I there though, when we aren’t working on appliances we’re usually at the shop. But our hope is that as we add more equipment we can start hiring more staff and expand our hours,” he said.

Availability is relatively open as well, according to Arquitt, but those in need of a rental should book soon with nice weather fast approaching.

Arquitt said he expects much of the equipment to be in high demand all summer, though they do have many versions of the smaller items.

“We have multiple nailers, compressors and other power tools. Usually we have three or four in inventory, so there’s a good chance those items will be available on short notice,” he said.

The brothers are also certified Interstate Battery and Amsoil retailers and offer nails and screws by the pound, making North Country Equipment Rental a one stop shop for contractors and homeowners alike.

“We have plans to keep adding more products for sale as we go, we plan to expand that part of the business too,” Arquitt said.

Hours of operation are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturdays.
