Heavy snow tonight, Monday in SLC likely to cause poor travel conditions, power outages

A winter storm warning is in effect for St. Lawrence County from 1 a.m. tonight through 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Heavy snow is expected with total accumulations of 6 to 13 inches possible, NWS says. Wind gusts as high as 50 mph are possible in some areas.

In the St. Lawrence Valley, snowfall rates may reach 3 inches per hour, forecasters say.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible, the service says. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. In combination with gusty winds, isolated to scattered power outages are possible.

Highs today will be near 17 with wind chill values as low as -5, NWS says. Snow will begin tonight, mainly after midnight, with an overnight low near 7.

Mostly sunny and cold, with a high near 5. West wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
