CANTON — A St. Lawrence Steel hockey coach died while coaching in Buffalo this past weekend and a GoFundMe account has been launched to assist his family.

“It is really hard to be writing this, but as of early Tuesday morning the world has lost a great man, Andrew St. Louis,” a statement on . “He was loved by so many, he was a father, son, coach, brother, uncle , and a great man. He will be missed by so many.”

St. Louis was coaching in Buffalo for the St. Lawrence Steel when he suffered a medical event during the third period of the game, according to Gerald Woodruff, who organized the fundraiser for the family..

“He was rushed to the hospital, where they determined at the hospital that he had an aortic rupture. After 35 hours of procedures and surgeries he left us here on earth for a better view of all the hockey games.” he said.

All funds will be given to the St. Louis family to cover medical expenses, funeral costs and help the family get back on their feet.

“Although Andrew is no longer with us he has left a legacy behind. He has left behind his wife- Shelly St. Louis , and his 2 kids Lexi and Carson St. Louis, as well as the rest of his immediate family and his hockey families,“ Woodruff said.

More than 500 donors have raised over $62,000 toward a $70,000 goal. To donate, visit here.
