POTSDAM -- A Massachusetts foundation has awarded Clarkson University a gift of $150,000 for the university's Digital Arts & Sciences Program.

The gift, from the George I. Alden Trust of Worcester, Mass., is specifically directed toward improvement of the program's facilities and the purchase of new equipment.

The 2011 fall semester will see the largest number of incoming DA&S freshman to date, brining total enrollment to over 60 students. Assistant Professor Dave Beck has directed the program for the past four years, and has overseen the evolution of the program.

Since 2010, the DA&S program has received two national awards, the Innovative Program Award, given to a single program by the International Digital Media and Arts Association, and Top-50 Game Design Program by the Princeton Review.

The major delivers a foundation in the digital arts, including areas like 3D modeling and animation, interactive design, graphic and web design, and video, and a foundation in computer science and mathematics, such as programming for video games, virtual reality, physics, and imaging-based math courses.
