CANTON – A DeKalb Junction man faces a second-degree attempted murder charge following an indictment handed down Thursday by a St. Lawrence County grand jury.

Edward Slayko, 66 of 505 Cousintown Road, was also indicted on two counts of first-degree attempted assault, two counts of second-degree attempted assault, two counts of menacing, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

It is alleged that on Sept. 17, 2021 at 1272 Pond Road in the Town of Hermon, Slayko attempted to fire a .22 caliber rifle, pulling the trigger three times, at Clarence and Brian Cleveland. The rifle misfired then Slayko used the stock to bludgeon the two.

The two were able to take the gun away from Slayko and subdue him.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Slayko on Sept. 27.
