POTSDAM -- Staff and physicians of Canton-Potsdam Hospital's main campus and outpatient services campuses are marking breast cancer awareness month by participating in a number of events.
To kick off the month, the Hospital held a "pinkest department" contest. Finalists included Cardiology Services, CPH Warner Cancer Treatment Center, Environmental Services, Registration/Switchboard, Medical/Surgical Unit 2, and Human Resources.
The Hospital and Pizzagalli Construction are also hosting "Project Pink" by stringing pink lights on the construction fencing surrounding the new consolidated cancer center construction site. Patients, visitors, members of the public, and employees have contributed a dollar for each pink light that will promote breast cancer awareness outside the Hospital. Lights will continue to be on sale at the main campus on 50 Leroy Street in Potsdam through the Potsdam Hospital Guild's gift shop or on the first floor of the Hospital near the silver elevators at various lunch-hour times throughout the month of October. Proceeds support breast cancer navigation programming for patients.
The Hospital is also promoting mammography screening throughout the month, and several employees are participating in the Droppin' the Gloves on Cancer women's hockey tournament at Clarkson University October 8 through 10 to benefit women's cancer programs at Massena Memorial Hospital and Canton-Potsdam Hospital. For more information about the hockey tournament, contact Julia Rose in the Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation at (315) 769-4602.
