CANTON — The Canton Central School Board of Education approved canceling the vote for the proposed $24 million capital project.
“Last night, the Board of Education approved the cancellation of the vote on the Canton Central School District $24 million capital project,” said Ron Burke, CCS superintendent. “Given the health crisis facing our nation and the economic uncertainty faced by our residents, now is not the time to ask voters to consider this large expenditure,” he said.
He said the district is working on making essential repairs to the high school cafeteria serving line and to the main sewer line, two of the most pressing issues addressed in the proposed capital project.
The project was to include new parking lots, updated athletics fields, a new pool, new offices and classrooms, a fitness center and other improvements.
