MASSENA –Border Patrol agents, with the help of a K9 team, arrested a U.S. citizen for allegedly transporting nearly 81 pounds of marijuana Friday, June 21, near the Massena border crossing.
A press release from the Department of Homeland Security said that Border Patrol officers from the Massena station observed a suspicious vehicle traveling from a known smuggling route.
Border Patrol officers pulled the vehicle over and said they noticed some anomalies.
A Border Patrol K9 team alerted to the vehicles’ truck area and approximately 81 pounds of packaged-for-sale marijuana were discovered.
The driver, Zhang D. Ming, 34, of Endicott, NY, was taken into custody and transported to the Massena Border Patrol Station. After initial processing by Border Patrol, Ming and the marijuana evidence were turned over to the state police, Homeland Security said.
Ming was charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, the press release said.
