With $3.5 million restored in the state budget for the community renewal Rural Preservation Program, Assemblywoman Addie Russell says she is pleased.
“This program serves as a catalyst to inject private capital into construction and rehabilitation projects,” the 118th District Democrat said.
Among the organizations that utilize this funding is the St. Lawrence Housing Council.
“This funding helps ensure the availability of affordable housing and also compliments the efforts of localities across our region to rebuild and revitalize the housing stock,” the assemblywoman said.
“The program also promotes and preserves housing for low and moderate income families as well as the elderly,” she noted.
The money provided by the program is used to leverage an average of $43 for each $1 of state funds invested, Russell’s office said.
Russell’s 118th District includes all the towns in the county along the St. Lawrence River, plus Macomb, Canton, Potsdam, and the city of Ogdensburg.
