Ashton Fry scored his first collegiate goal and Bo Hanson followed with a coast-to-coast tally of his own just 58 seconds later to give the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team the lead, but visiting Quinnipiac responded with a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the second period en route to a 3-2 win over the Saints on Friday night at SUNY Canton.

In addition to Fry's first goal, senior netminder Daniel Mannella also picked up the first point of the season and second of his career with the secondary helper on Hanson's fourth of the season.

All of Friday's scoring came in a 10-minute window in the second period, as Quinnipiac's Alex Whelan got the visitors on the board at the 7:19 mark with the first of two power play goals on the night for the senior winger.

Whelan beat Mannella with a one-time rip from a knee in the slot, with assists going to Guus van Nes and Zach Metsa to make it 1-0 in favor of the Bobcats.

Just over two minutes later, however, Fry and the Saints pulled even at 1-1.

Junior captain Dylan Woolf started the play with a stretch pass from the side of the Saints' net to rookie Cameron Buhl at the far blue line. Buhl touched the pass between his skates to gain the zone and hit a wide-open Fry streaking down the right wing side and the Highlands Ranch, Colorado native beat Quinnipiac's Keith Petruzzelli over his left shoulder for the first of his career at 9:22.

Fifty-eight seconds later, with the Saints on the power play, Mannella stopped the puck behind the cage and played to Alftberg in the corner, who then dished it off to Hanson behind the St. Lawrence net. The junior defenseman beat one Quinnipiac player at the St. Lawrence blue line and then split three defenders carrying into the offensive zone before finishing it off with a quick snap shot high on the blocker side to give St. Lawrence a 2-1 lead.

Later in the frame, Whelan struck again with Quinnipiac on the power play as he banked a centering pass off a leg at the edge of the crease and the puck popped over Mannella's shoulder and in to tie the game at 2-2 at 15:11.

Unfortunately, for the Saints, the eventual game winner for Quinnipiac at 17:27 was similar, as Zach Metsa's drive from the left point hit a defender on the way through and popped up and just over the outstretched glove of Mannella as he reached back from the near post.

St. Lawrence outshot the Bobcats in the third period, but Petruzzelli came up big for the visitors, making 11 of his 19 stops in the final 20 minutes of play.

The Saints pulled Mannella with just under three minutes remaining in regulation and kept consistent pressure in the Quinnipiac zone, but couldn't bury another equalizer.

Quinnipiac finished with a 32-21 advantage in shots on goal and was 2-for-4 with the man advantage, while St. Lawrence finished 1-for-4.

With the loss, the Saints drop to 3-16-3 overall and 1-9-0 in ECAC Hockey games. Quinnipiac improves to 12-7-1 and 7-3-1 with its sixth straight victory.

The Saints will return to SUNY Canton for the final time this season to take on Princeton on Saturday, January 11 at 7 p.m.
