Opinion: Vote Hammond for Waddington Town Supervisor, says Waddington man

To the Editor:

I am writing to express my support for Alex Hammond in his re-election for Waddington Town Supervisor.

I moved to Waddington with my family a few years ago. Before that, my wife Nicole and I lived in Canton with our young daughter. I remember in 2017 when Alex had first been elected it was a big deal. He was 21 and still in college and like many I was surprised and skeptical about how he would perform as Waddington’s town supervisor. Although I lived in Canton, I like to stay politically informed and kept tabs on Alex and what he was doing. I was very impressed with the vision that he had. He wasn’t partisan, in fact quite the opposite and worked with a majority Republican town board to keep taxes stable, increase funding to the Highway department, and increase tourism and events in town.

Fast forward to 2019, my wife and I made the big decision to move to Waddington. We had heard rave reviews about the school district, community and its leadership. My daughter was just starting Kindergarten when I realized Alex was the long term substitute music teacher at Madrid- Waddington. Being a police officer by trade I was impressed to find out that Alex was also an officer in the National Guard and a strong supporter of unions. I remember thinking about how his well roundedness would help him gain life experience necessary to continue success as Waddington Town Supervisor.

I finally first met Alex in Mack’s Tavern during the summer of 2019 and was glad to find that he doesn’t take himself too seriously like most politicians do. That’s because Alex is just a regular guy, he sees the office of town supervisor as a job he was elected to do and he does everything he can to get the job done. Alex is probably the most transparent elected official I have ever met, I have his number in my phone and I know I can call or text him with any problems and he will get to the bottom of it. That’s the sort of community relationship that attracted Nicole and I to move to this beautiful town.

I can’t tell you who to vote for, but I can tell you who I am supporting. Waddington Town Supervisor Alex Hammond, he puts the community first and we need to ensure he can continue to work for the people of Waddington.
