In response t “Tedra Cobb a Hypocrite?” which appeared in the Dec. 14-20 edition of North Country This Week: After reading, I decided to do some research and found the following figures. Readers can do the same.

The “old” GOP was for fiscal responsibility and balanced budgets. The “new” GOP under Trump has added 2 trillion dollars to the national debt which now stands at 22 trillion dollars and rising. I guess the “new” GOP doesn’t care about national deficits anymore.

The “old” GOP was largely against the bailouts of GM and Chrysler in the beginning of the Obama administration. “That’s socialist!’, they howled. “The government doesn’t belong in the automobile industry!”, they howled some more. Out of 60 billion dollars of bailout money provided, all but 12 billion has been paid back so far, thus saving countless thousands of private sector jobs. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has bailed out farmers to the tune of 28 billion dollars and rising and mostly because this situation was created by Trump with his trade war. Do you suppose any of that bailout will be paid back? I guess the “new” GOP is fine with bailouts now.

Finally, the “old” GOP used to call themselves the law and order party. Remember, they impeached Bill Clinton for far less than this president has done. The “new” GOP continues to defend the unethical and unconstitutional behavior of this president. I guess the “new” GOP doesn’t care about justice and the rule of law anymore.

This is to name just a few differences.

A shot of hypocricy with your eggnog anyone?
