A year into the coronavirus pandemic, New York State faces a profound hunger crisis. Many people in our community have lost jobs, are under-employed, or struggle to feed their families. If you or someone you know needs help buying food, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) may be able to help.
SNAP helps low-income families, seniors, people with disabilities, veterans and others stretch their grocery budget and buy the food they need to stay healthy. It provides monthly benefits on a debit card to spend at local grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and approved online retailers. You can apply for and receive benefits by phone or online, without having to leave your home.
For millions of New Yorkers, SNAP can be the difference between having food and going hungry. The Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) can help you learn if you may be eligible and complete and submit a SNAP application. These services are free and confidential.
