Local mountaineers Paul and Amber Nezezon of Brasher Falls reached the summit of Mount Marcy last Thursday.
The hike is a 15-mile round trip which the Nezezons embarked on at 7 a.m. Thursday morning.
Marcy is New York State's highest mountain with an elevation of 5344'.
It is home to much wildlife. On the trek the Nezezon's spotted a small black bear, a large snowshoe rabbit, and quite a few partridges who thought it funny to drum their wings at them.
As the hike went on, the weather turned into a slippery mist that made it difficult to climb the long stretches of ice.
At the summit the winds reached over 60 mph but that did not dampen the joy of reaching the highest point you can go on foot in NYS.
The Nezezons reached their vehicle again at 4:30 p.m., 
spending only about a half hour on the summit. So, the round trip was done in about 9 hours.
