CANTON -- St. Lawrence County has scheduled a public hearing via Zoom to give the public the opportunity to comment on the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board’s recommended additions to Agricultural District 2. The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. Persons who are interested in attending the online public hearing can email mlarson@stlawco.org to request the meeting ID.
This spring, the county received requests to add six parcels to Ag District 2 that total 583 acres.
These parcels are located in the towns of Brasher, Louisville and Stockholm. When examining each requested addition, the County’s Ag and Farmland Protection Board reviewed a parcel’s existing use; whether local regulations allow agricultural uses at the requested location; whether the land receives an agricultural valuation; and if the land contains prime soils.
Lands that are recommended for inclusion have either satisfied, or are exempt from the criteria.
At its meeting on April 2, the Ag and Farmland Protection Board recommended the County Board of Legislators to accept all six parcels to Ag District 2.
Maps depicting the locations of the requested additions were emailed to the municipal clerk of each town where the parcels are located. Digital copies of these maps can also be obtained by emailing mlarson@stlawco.org.
Those who cannot attend the public hearing online can email written comments no later than Friday, April 24 to mlarson@stlawco.org.
