POTSDAM -- The recital, "Operissimo!: The World of Opera," a celebration of opera's "greatest hits," accompanied by caustic commentary by critic Corno di Basetto, will take place Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Snell Music Theater, SUNY Potsdam.
The performance will feature group performances by students and professors from The Crane School of Music, interspersed with commentary by Corno di Basetto, portrayed by Associate Professor David Pittman-Jennings.
The character's comments are inspired by Nicolas Slonimsky's "Lexicon of Musical Invective," a collection of hilariously bad musical reviews.
The music includes Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," and "Papageno-Papagena Duet." Also, "Ach, Welche Luft," by Beethoven and the "Tra La La Duet" by Donizetti. This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
