CANTON -- The 59th annual Canton Canoe Weekend, including the C-1 Pro World Championships, C-1/K-1 Amateur Races, J.H. Rushton Recreational Races and Joe Randi Rushton Relay scheduled for May 2, as well as the C-2/Special K Race scheduled for May 3, has been canceled for 2020.

"After considering the health and safety of everyone involved, current travel restrictions and limited ability of our support businesses to participate for the foreseeable future, this was our decision," said a statement from the committee organizing the event. "We cannot postpone without conflicting with another established race, or without knowing if there will be enough water to run the events later in the season."

The committee said it hopes to host a scaled down event to include the Rushton Recreational Races and the Joe Randi Rushton Relay Races in late summer or early fall.

Planning for next year has already begun said organizers. The 60th Annual Canton Canoe Weekend is slated for May 1 and 2.

In other local paddle news, the St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers have cancelled the Little River Ramble, scheduled for April 19.

The 2020 Paddling Film Festival World Tour originally scheduled for Thursday, April 9 has been postponed and is rescheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Canton.
