WADDINGTON - The 18th Annual St. Lawrence International Jr. Carp Tournament is returning this summer on July 29-31 for children ages 11-18.

Cash prizes for first, second and third place will be given for ages 11-14 and 15-18 for both males and females. Prizes will also be awarded in other categories as well.

Adults may also enter the tournament and fish with their children, but only children are eligible for prizes.

Multiple fishing spots will be located between Ogdensburg and Massena,

Sponsorships were available, thanks to many sponsors. The family of Alex Beaudoin, Brasher, are sponsoring five participants, as well as donating over 1,100 in prize money.

“We are very excited this year that we have an increase in the number of kids coming from out of the area, including New Jersey, Connecticut and near New York City. We are expecting over 70 participants,” said Jo Ann Roberts, co-organizer of the event with Abby McNamara.

The tournament was started in 2003 by the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, who has since turned it over to the Carp Angler’s Group; a national organization with many of their members volunteering during the event.

19-year-old Emma Martin of Waddington will be this year’s grand marshal.

This year the event is being dedicated to those we lost who were participants or supporters: Riley Basford, Louie Kiah, Terry Rafter, Donnie Smithers and Carl Bennett.
