MASSENA -- The Village Board of Trustees voted to extend their contract with a grant writer for another year.
The board voted during their Tuesday, June 16 meeting that was streamed live on YouTube.
They are paying $51,750 to Strategic Development Specialists for the service.
Mayor Tim Currier said the firm wrote applications that brought $397,000 in grants to the village during the 2019 calendar year.
Deputy Mayor Matt Lebire said because of anticipated decreased revenues due to the coronavirus pandemic, he believes they will need a grant writer in their corner.
“I think this coming year, grants are going to play an even more important role,” he said. “I’m glad it’s a one-year extension. Don’t ever want to get into a long-term with anything but the results seem to be good so far.”
Mayor Tim Currier said the grant writers in the slower months still work in “preparation for upcoming grants that are going to be released, start collecting data, start working with department heads.”
