Canton maple business sold to The Forest Farmers

CANTON -- The Parker's Real Maple brand has been acquired by The Forest Farmers, a company based in Upstate New York.

Josh Parker, CEO of Parker Maple Farm, made the announcement in an email to customers.

He said the acquisition will allow the company to offer faster service and greater availability of limited-quantity items, such as maple butter.

Parker started his maple business in 2009 at 11 years old, when he borrowed 15 buckets and produced three pints of maple syrup in his mother's kitchen.

In 2014, his business harvested sap from 3,500 taps and produced maple syrup using reverse osmosis and a new wood pellet boiler.

Parker’s passion for maple began on a school field trip when he was 11 years old. After learning how, he went home and made some on his stove. The next year he made more in his backyard and a few years later when he was 15, he decided he wanted to make a business out of it.

The Forest Farmers was started by Michael Farrell, Ph.D. who ran The Maple Research Center at Cornell University for 13 years.

“I met Mike in 2013 when I was starting Parker’s Real Maple. He soon became my earliest mentor in growing the brand. Mike went onto leave Cornell in 2017 to work with two other partners in building one of the largest syrup production operations in the country with the mission to conserve wild forests and create jobs in rural areas,” Parker said.

Over the past few years The Forest Farmers has focused on building out its production capacity of organic maple syrup and other tree syrups (e.g. Birch, Beech, Walnut, etc.) under the brand New Leaf Tree Syrups, the press release said.

“I am excited to be following the Parker's brand to The Forest Farmers to continue to advance our mission,” said Parker.
